 Gone Home

It is with deep sadness that we share the news of the passing of Tom Gray.  He expired on January, 31, 2014, at approximately 3:30 pm at the Cleveland Clinic.  Our beloved Tom passed from this world surrounded by his son Jon and two granddaughters Danielle and Noelmarie.

This is the end of an era.  Thomas J. Gray, Eagle Scout, was the ultimate servant-leader, an 85-year active Scouting veteran and a true Scouting legend.  He belongs to the ages now and will be forever loved, but never forgotten.

In 2010, Tom Gray was the honoree for the Greater Cleveland Council Class of Eagle Scouts. For that dinner, Tom shared some of his thoughts in a short video, that we would like to share.

 Maple Syrup Camp- February 22 & March 8, 2014

Come learn about how Maple Syrup is made and what makes it so special. Everyone loves Maple Syrup on their pancakes, but do you know how it is made, and why it is so expensive? It takes 43 gallons of sap to make 1 gallon of Maple Syrup. Different types of trees produce different kinds and flavors of sap which changes the taste of the syrup. For information and registration please use the attached links.

Meet the Camp Director Evenings- February 26 & March 19, 2014

Come spend an evening and learn what makes Beaumont Scout Reservation SIZZLE for Boy Scout Summer Camp in 2014 with Carl Boyles our Camp Director and Phil Williams Program Director. Their innovative approach to B.S. Summer Camp has made Beaumont Scout Reservation the premier camp for Scouts new & older.

New Merit Badges & Program offerings will be discussed so your troop can properly prepare for camp this summer. If your troop is not planning on attending Beaumont Summer Camp, we encourage you to come as well, so that will have the opportunity to compare our camp to your troop's expectations this summer. Info/Registration

 New Eagle Scout Scholarship Opportunity

Besides the G.C.C. Eagle Scout Association, Bayless, and Appel Scholarships this year there are two additional opportunities:

  • Thomas J. Gray Eagle Scout Scholarship for Cleveland State University (4 years; up to 50% of tuition/year) 2/28 deadline

  • Thomas J. Gray Eagle Scout Scholarship for Case Western Reserve Univ. (4 years; up to 50% of tuition /year) 2/28 deadline

Detailed information can be found in the attached document.

Friends of Scouting Unit Presentations

If your unit has not scheduled a FOS Presentation, now is the time to do it. With the cost of over $200 per scout it is important that every unit share in the responsibility of  making this campaign a success. This campaign is one of the ways that our Council funds it's activities rather than charging a local membership fee. The membership fee that is paid annually goes to National and not to cover any local costs. Why not take a moment and schedule a time with Heather McMillian either by e-mail with the link or by telephone at 216.458.8911.
