Silver Beaver Nominations are due before 12/1/13!

The Silver Beaver Award is the highest recognition a Boy Scout council can bestow on an adult volunteer leader. The award is presented to those volunteers who have made outstanding contributions to the Scouting program. Nominations are recommended by the local council and approved by the National Council of the Boy Scouts of America. The Greater Cleveland Council presented its first Silver Beaver Awards in 1931.

On October 26th over 200 people participated in the Rules of the Road/ New Cub Scout Pinewood Derby Kit Give-Away.

The Scouts and their families learned car safety and toured the dealership and service department. Pat O'Brien Chevy sponsored this event and the 2013 Fall Membership Drive that brought in over 2000 new Scouting families.

A special thanks also goes to University Hospital and their staff of Chrystal Gullet, Alicia Valle, and Mandy Thomas for putting on the Rules of the Road event!

Re-charter can be a successful process when you are prepared. Please RSVP if you are planning on attending one of these re-charter renewal sessions. You will want to come to these events with all the needed paperwork, complete signatures and money.  Please make sure you are working with your commissioners and district executives ahead of time to have a successful re-charter. They will have your online codes needed to make this a simple process. You may also request a roster from your team leader to be able find out who will need their Youth Protection renewed.  Thanks for all you do. Let's remember that a well-planned program, delivered by a trained leader, with a strong outdoor program, supported by a good commissioner, attracts and retains youth!!

Eagle Required Merit Badges - Changes For 2014
Effective Jan. 1, 2014, the Cooking merit badge is required in order to obtain the Eagle Scout rank. Regardless of when a Scout earned the Life rank or began working on Eagle, unless he fulfills all the requirements-with the exception of his board of review-before Jan. 1, 2014, he must earn the Cooking merit badge to become an Eagle Scout.

Upon its release during the summer of 2013, the Sustainability merit badge became available as an option with Environmental Science as an Eagle-required merit badge. At that time, Scouts may now choose to earn Sustainability in place of the currently required Environmental Science. Scouts who have already earned Environmental Science may also earn Sustainability, but only one of the two merit badges would count as "Eagle-required." The other, however, may count as one of the others necessary to reach the total of 21 required merit badges.
